Dr. Abdu Hasan Ali Ayoub is a Consultant General Surgeon and an expert in healthcare quality, patient safety, and healthcare management, with more than thirty years of clinical and administrative experience. Throughout his career, he has combined surgical practice with hospital management, healthcare accreditation, patient safety, medical education, and health service development.
He earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from King Saud University in 1995 and completed his internship at King Fahad Central Hospital in Jazan. He later pursued specialization in general surgery and obtained both the Saudi Board and the Jordanian Board in General Surgery in 2013. Alongside his surgical career, he developed a strong interest in healthcare quality and management, earning a Professional Diploma in Healthcare Quality and International Hospital Accreditation, followed by a Professional Diploma in Healthcare Administration. He also holds professional certifications in healthcare quality CPHQ, patient safety CPPS, and healthcare risk management CPHRM.
His experience in quality management began at King Fahad Central Hospital in Jazan, where he served as Quality Management Coordinator in the Radiology Department before becoming Head of Quality Management at the hospital. As his career progressed, he held several clinical and administrative positions, including Consultant General Surgeon, Medical Director, Director of Al-Raith General Hospital, Director of Hospital Affairs at Jazan Health Directorate, and Director of Jazan Field Hospital in 2020.
He has led several medical and surgical departments, including day surgery, operating theatres, and general surgery departments at different hospitals. He also served as Head of Quality and Patient Safety and led the Gallbladder Pathway as part of healthcare improvement initiatives before becoming Executive Director of Patient Safety at Jazan Health Cluster in 2024.
In addition to his clinical and administrative work, Dr. Ayoub has extensive experience in healthcare accreditation and assessment. He serves as a Hospital and Ambulatory Surveyor with the Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions CBAHI, as well as an Institutional and Program Accreditation Surveyor with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties. He has also worked as a surveyor with the Council of Health Insurance. Through these roles, he contributes to assessing organizational readiness, reviewing quality and patient safety standards, and improving healthcare practices.
He has also been actively involved in medical education and training. He has lectured to radiology students, contributed to professional training programs, and served as Director of the General Surgery Residency Training Program under the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties. He has participated in the Institutional Training Committee and the Internal Review and Quality Committee for institutional training and has completed training in Training of Trainers and Advanced Trauma Life Support.
His professional interests also include healthcare quality improvement, patient safety, clinical governance, healthcare risk management, clinical documentation improvement, and revenue cycle management. He has practical experience in hospital operations, medical team leadership, service reorganization, care pathway improvement, and aligning clinical practice with accreditation and quality requirements.
Dr. Ayoub has authored and co-authored several scientific publications in general surgery, laparoscopic surgery, and surgical safety. His research has addressed complex surgical cases, preoperative patient preparation, and the improvement of surgical outcomes. He has also contributed to international studies examining surgical timing and postoperative risks associated with SARS-CoV-2, with findings published in international medical journals.
He continues to practice general surgery while maintaining a strong focus on patient safety and healthcare quality. His long experience across clinical practice, administration, accreditation, and training enables him to approach healthcare challenges with a broad understanding of patient needs, medical team performance, procedural quality, and organizational safety.
